Nanni Moretti is an Italian film director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. He won the Palme d’Or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.
Nanni was born in South Tyrol, North Italy, while his parents were on vacation there. He is the son of Agata Apicella and Luigi Moretti, an epigraphist. His mother was from Reggio Calabria, Italy. They both appeared in his films. Nanni’s brother is renowned literary scholar Franco Moretti.
Nanni’s paternal grandfather was named Silvio Moretti.
Nanni’s paternal grandmother was named Argenide Croce.
