Neal Schon is an American rock guitarist, musician, songwriter, and vocalist. He has been a member of rock band Journey, rock band Santana, Latin rock band Azteca, rock duo Schon & Hammer, rock supergroup Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve, hard rock supergroup Bad English, hard rock band Hardline, supergroup Planet Us, and band Soul SirkUS. Steve Perry , and, later, Arnel Pineda , have also been members of Journey. Carlos Santana is also a member of Santana. Pete Escovedo was also a member of Azteca. Sammy Hagar was also a member of Hagar Schon Aaronson Shrieve. Michael Anthony , Hagar, and Joe Satriani were also members of Planet Us.
Neal is the son of Barbara, a big band singer, and Matthew Schon, a big band musician, arranger, and composer. His father played and taught reed instruments, with emphasis on jazz tenor saxophone. His paternal grandparents were ethnic German emigrants, from what is now Serbia. His maternal grandparents were Italian. Neal was raised in San Mateo, California.
Neal is married to television personality and model Michaele Salahi. He has two children with his former wife Beth Buckley; and two children with his former wife Amber Kozan.
Neal’s paternal grandfather was named George Schön. George was born in Palánka, Austria-Hungary.
Neal’s paternal grandmother was Theresa/Terez Maurer (the daughter of Antal/Antonius Maurer and Katalin/Catharina Blazius/Blasius). Theresa was born in Bács-Bodrog County, Austria-Hungary. Antal was born in Bács-Bodrog, the son of Antonius Maurer and Theresia Thomas. Catharina was born in Német-Palánka, Bács-Bodrog, the daughter of Nikolaus Blasius and Katharina Franz.
Neal’s maternal grandfather was John Baptista Gulli (the son of Carmelo Gullì and Giulia Pisano). Carmelo was born in Fossato di Calabria, the son of Giovanni Gulli and Angiola Minniti.
Neal’s maternal grandmother was Pauline Calioni (the daughter of Joseph Calioni and Agatha Sponti).
