Neve Campbell is a Canadian actress. She is known for starring as Sidney Prescott in the Scream films, as well as for her roles in The Craft , Wild Things , The Company (2003), and Skyscraper .
Neve is the daughter of Marnie Neve and Gerry Campbell. Her brother, Christian Campbell, is also an actor. Her mother also acts. Neve has two children with her partner, American-British actor JJ Feild, the son of mystic and author Reshad Feild. Her brother Christian is married to American actress, singer, and model America Olivo .
Her father is a Scottish emigrant, from Glasgow. Her mother is a Dutch emigrant, from Amsterdam.
Neve has stated that her mother’s maiden name, Neve, comes from Sephardi Jewish ancestors, who moved to the Netherlands, and later converted to Catholicism. Neve herself is Catholic. She has also said, “my lineage is Jewish, so if someone asks me if I’m Jewish, I say yes.” Neve can be a Sephardi Jewish surname. In Italian, it means “snow,” and in Hebrew and Arabic, it means “oasis.” However, Neve’s maternal Neve line can be traced to Geerolf Neve, who was born, c. 1620, in Hengstdijk, Zeeland, Netherlands, and to his parents, Jan Neve and Maijken Loens. The family was of Dutch, non-Jewish background, and no Jewish heritage appears in family trees of Neve’s mother.
Her maternal grandparents were said to have run a theatre in the Netherlands.
Neve’s paternal grandfather was Alfred McLaren “Alfie” Campbell (the son of James Campbell and Agnes Kelly). Alfred was born in Glasgow, Glasgow City.
Neve’s paternal grandmother was Agnes McKenzie McIntosh (the daughter of Robert McIntosh and Agnes Barbour). Agnes was born in Glasgow, Glasgow City.
Neve’s maternal grandfather was Jules Jacobus Neve (the son of Petrus/Peter Neve and Rosalia Kas). Jules was born in Hontenisse, Zeeland. Petrus was born in Vrouwenpolder, Zeeland, the son of Cornelis Neve and Apolonia Flips. Rosalia was born in Hontenisse, the daughter of Jacobus Kas and Petronella de Boeij.
Neve’s maternal grandmother was Wilhelmina Johanna “Willy” Maas (the daughter of Matthijs Joseph Leonardus Maas and Maria Johanna Pasteuning). Wilhelmina was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Matthijs was born in Amsterdam, the son of Petrus Gijsbertus Maas and Mina de Rijk. Maria was born in Loosdrecht, Noord-Holland, the daughter of Johannes Pasteuning and Catharina Johanna Holthuijzen/Holthuijsen.
