Thomas was the son of Irish emigrants, Thomas Francis Noonan, of Oranmore, County Galway, and Honora “Hannah” Grady, of Newtown, Kilcolgan, County Galway. Catherine was the daughter of an Irish emigrant, Michael Sullivan, and of Honora “Hannah” O’Neill, whose own parents were Irish.
Nick’s paternal grandmother was Judith Frances Flynn (the daughter of George Aloysius Flynn and Ellen Agnes Whalen). Judith was born in Hull, Massachusetts. George was the son of an Irish emigrant, George A. Flynn, and of a Canadian emigrant, Annie Elizabeth Power, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, who herself was of Irish descent. Ellen was the daughter of an Irish emigrant, Sylvester H. Whalen, of Ballynagaul, County Waterford, and of Julia E. Kiley, whose own parents were Irish.
