Nicky was born in Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, the son of Carol Katt, an American costume designer, and Agustín Islas, a Mexican musician, who was the bassist for Mexican rock band El Klan. He was raised in Los Angeles, California, U.S.
Nicky’s maternal grandfather was The Rev. Alvin August Katt (the son of Heinrich/Henry Deitrich C. Katt and Alvina A. Muchow). The Rev. Alvin Katt was a Lutheran pastor. Heinrich was German. Alvina was born in South Dakota, to German parents.
Nicky’s maternal grandmother was named Mary Martha Kahlor (the daughter of H. O. Kahlor and Helen). Mary was born in New York, to German parents.
