Her parents, Francesca and Giovanni, are Italian. Her father is from Barga, Province of Lucca, Tuscany. Her maternal grandparents are from Udine, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Italy.
She has said :
My mum and dad were both born in Italy and I had been distanced from that because I was born in Scotland… My dad grew up in a tiny, tiny village that only had a few hours of sunlight everyday, so he came to Scotland to start a new life… As such, his Italian upbringing was not really enforced upon my sister and me. Mum and Dad were quite happy to be living in Scotland and be Scottish.
