Norman Lloyd was an American actor, producer, and director. He was one of the most durable actors in recorded history, having lived to 106. He began his career in the 1920s. His roles include the films Saboteur (1942), The Southerner , The Unseen , Spellbound , A Walk in the Sun (1945), A Letter for Evie , No Minor Vices , Calamity Jane and Sam Bass , Reign of Terror , Buccaneer’s Girl , The Flame and the Arrow , Flame of Stamboul , M (1951), He Ran All the Way , Limelight (1952), Audrey Rose , FM , The Nude Bomb , Jaws of Satan , Dead Poets Society , The Age of Innocence (1993), In Her Shoes , and Trainwreck ; the series Kraft Television Theatre , Alfred Hitchcock Presents , which he directed episodes of; St. Elsewhere , Murder, She Wrote ; Wiseguy , and Seven Days ; the made-for-tv movies The Dark Secret of Harvest Home , Amityville: The Evil Escapes , and Fail Safe (2000); and many stage and radio performances. He also directed episodes of the shows Chevron Theatre , Gruen Playhouse , Omnibus , Alfred Hitchcock Hour , and Tales of the Unexpected , and the made-for-tv movie Companions in Nightmare .
Norman was the son of Sadie (Horowitz), a bookkeeper, and Max Perlmutter, an accountant, salesman, and proprietor of a furniture store. His father was born in New York, to Hungarian Jewish parents. His mother was born in New York, to a Hungarian Jewish father and a Russian Jewish mother.
He was married to stage actress and television director Peggy Lloyd (born Margaret Hirsdansky), until her death, with whom he had two children, including director and actress Josie Lloyd. Peggy was of Lithuanian Jewish/Russian Jewish descent. Josie was married to puppeteer Bil Baird.
Norman’s paternal grandfather was named Herman Perlmutter.
