Oriol Junqueras is a Spanish historian and politician. He has been President of Republican Left of Catalonia, since 14 December 2024, and, previously, from 17 September, 2011 to 10 June, 2024. He was previously Mayor of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, from 11 June, 2011 to 23 December, 2015, Minister of Economy and Finance of Catalonia, from 14 January, 2016 to 27 October, 2017, and Vice President of Catalonia, from 14 January, 2016 to 28 October, 2017; as well as, a Member of the Municipality Council of Sant Vicenç dels Horts, from 2007 to 2015, a Member of the European Parliament, from 14 July, 2009 to 31 December, 2011, and again, from 2 July, 2019 to 2 January, 2020; and a Member of the Parliament of Catalonia for Barcelona, from 17 December, 2012 to 10 July, 2018.
His father, Artur Junqueras i Esteve, was a high school teacher, also from Sant Andreu de Palomar. He is pictured here . His mother, whose surname is Vies, was a nurse. Oriol is married to school teacher Neus Bramona, with whom he has two children.
Oriol’s paternal grandfather was surnamed Junqueras.
Oriol’s paternal grandmother was named Berta Esteve i Saldrigues (the daughter of parents surnamed Esteve and Saldrigues).
