Pablo Iglesias Turrión is a Spanish politician. He has been Secretary General of Podemos, from 15 November, 2014 to 4 May, 2021, and Second Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, and Minister of Social Rights and 2030 Agenda, both, from 13 January, 2020 to 31 March, 2021; as well as, a Member of the European Parliament, from 1 July, 2014 to 27 October, 2015, and a Member of the Congress of Deputies for Madrid, from 13 January, 2016 to 26 March, 2021.
Pablo’s father, Francisco Javier Iglesias Peláez, is a labor inspector and retired history professor. Pablo’s mother, María Luisa Turrión Santa María, is a lawyer for the trade union Workers’ Commissions (CCOO). Pablo was named after the “father” of Spanish socialism, Paulino “Pablo” Iglesias Posse. He has three children with his partner, politician Irene Montero.
Pablo’s paternal grandfather was Manuel Benito Iglesias Ramírez (the son of Alberto Iglesias López and María del Carmen Ramírez López). Alberto was the son of Venancio Iglesias de la Cruz and Donata López Colmano. Carmen was the daughter of José Ramírez Lechón and Brígida Gómez Cancillo.
Pablo’s paternal grandmother was María Dolores Peláez Zapater (the daughter of José Luis Peláez de Alarcón and María Antonia Zapater Ramírez). José was the son of José Peláez Rodríguez and Joaquina de Alarcón Roquier.
Pablo’s maternal grandparents were Manuel Turrión and a woman surnamed Santa María Torremocha.
