Paloma was born in London, England, to George Elsesser Carrasco, a father of Chilean and Swiss descent, and an American mother, Anedra Shockley, from Tennessee; her mother is of mostly African-American, and some European, descent. Paloma grew up in Los Angeles, California, with her parents and maternal grandparents. She moved to New York City, New York, in 2010. She is the sister of actor and model Ama Elsesser and skateboarder, rapper, record producer, visual artist, and model Sage Elsesser (Sage Gabriel Carlos Atreyu Elsesser). Her uncle is The Rev. Madison Shockley.
The name Elsesser is likely Swiss-German.

Paloma’s maternal grandfather was named Madison T. Shockley, Sr. Madison was born on the Hayes’ Plantation, in Arlington, Tennessee.
Paloma’s maternal grandmother is Audrey C. Veazey (the daughter of The Rev. Mertie G. F. Veazey and Dolly C. Jolly). Audrey is from Memphis. Her parents were from Mississippi. The Rev. Mertie was the son of The Rev. George Franklin Veazey, who was born into slavery, and established his first church in Arkabutla, Mississippi, in 1890.
