Paolo Gentiloni is an Italian politician. He served as Prime Minister of Italy , from 12 December, 2016 to 1 June, 2018. He has also been Minister of Communications, from 17 May, 2006 to 8 May, 2008, Minister of Foreign Affairs, from 31 October, 2014 to 12 December, 2016, President of the Democratic Party, from 17 March, 2019 to 22 February, 2020, and European Commissioner for Economy, from 1 December, 2019 to 30 November, 2024; as well as, a Member of the Chamber of Deputies, for Piedmont, then Lazio, then Rome, cumulatively, from 30 May, 2001 to 2 December, 2019.
His father, Carlo Alberto Gentiloni Silveri, was a lawyer. His mother, Maria Berica Venturini, was Venetian. He is married to architect Emanuela Mauro. He is related to Count Ottorino Gentiloni, a politician who is known for the “Gentiloni pact.”
Paolo’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his third great-grandfather, Niccolò Gentiloni.
