Paolo Sorrentino is an Italian film director, screenwriter, and writer. His La Grande Bellezza / The Great Beauty (2013) won the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, and the Bafta Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He has also directed the films One Man Up , The Consequences of Love , The Family Friend , Il divo , This Must Be the Place , a segment of Rio, I Love You ; Youth (2015), Loro , The Hand of God , Parthenope , La grazia , and the short film Killer in Red . He wrote all of the above films, except for This Must Be the Place , The Great Beauty , and Loro , all of which he co-wrote. He also co-wrote the film The Dust of Naples . He created and directed the series The Young Pope and The New Pope , which he also wrote for; and wrote episodes of the show La squadra .
He is the son of Concetta Romano and Salvatore Sorrentino, a bank director. He was raised in Vomero, Naples.
