Patrick Roy is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. A goaltender, he played for the Montreal Canadiens and the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League (NHL); and was with the Canada national team. He coaches the New York Islanders, and the Quebec Remparts of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He previously coached the Colorado Avalanche. He is nicknamed “Saint Patrick.”
Patrick is married to Michèle Piuze, with whom he has three children, including pop singer and songwriter Jonathan Roy and ice hockey player Frederick Roy.
Patrick’s paternal grandfather was Bonaventure Arsenault (the son of Joseph Arsenault and Marcelline Gauthier).
Patrick’s paternal grandmother was Lisette Fortier (the daughter of Arthur Fortier and Aline Moffat).
Patrick’s maternal grandfather was named Edward Ambrose Miller.
Patrick’s maternal grandmother was Marguerite/Margaret Ann Gertrude Peacock (the daughter of William Ramsay Peacock and Ellen Gertrude Kavanaugh). Margaret was born in Québec. William was the son of William Ramsay Peacock, from Dundee, Scotland, and of Margaret Davis. Ellen was the daughter of James Kavanaugh, who was Irish, and of Elizabeth Ann Louisa Shaver, who was of French-Canadian and German descent.
