Patrick Stump is an American singer, songwriter, musician, actor, record producer, and music critic. He is the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of rock band Fall Out Boy. Pete Wentz , Andy Hurley, and Joe Trohman are also members of the band.

Patrick is the son of Patricia, an accountant, and David Stumph, a folk singer. He was raised in Glenview, Illinois. Patrick is married to Elisa Yao, with whom he has two children.

He has stated :

My grandfather is half of Irish descent and this is my frail link to Ireland. The confirmed majority of my ancestry is German (and a heavy dose of Austrian). As is a common story in the United States though, I still look to “The Old Country,” for some sense of belonging… unintentionally negating my inherent American-ness. It’s offensive to both cultures at once: It belittles my actual country of origin while ignorantly appropriating Irish stereotypes.

Patrick’s paternal grandfather was Arnold Robert Stumph (the son of John Elisha Stumph and Bertha I. Gifford). Arnold was born in Dawes, Nebraska, and had partly deep American roots. John was the son of William Ramsey Stumph, whose paternal grandparents were German; and of Nellie C. Richardson. Patrick’s great-grandmother Bertha was the daughter of The Rev. William Hamilton Burns Gifford and Christina Grace Brownlee, whose own parents were Scottish emigrants, from Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

Patrick’s paternal grandmother was Helene/Helen Lema Heyer (the daughter of Julius Albert Heyer and Lena Eavera Smedberg). Helene was born in Bismarck, North Dakota. Julius was the son of German immigrants, Wilhelm August “William” Heuer/Heyer and Ottelga A. Schmidt. Patrick’s great-grandmother Lena was the daughter of Henry A. Smedberg, whose parents were Swedish, from Larf, Skaraborg; and of Julie Frand Minge, who was a Norwegian emigrant, born in Trondheim kommune, Sør-Trøndelag fylke.

Patrick’s maternal grandfather was surnamed Vaughn. His own father, evidently originally surnamed Vaughan, was Irish, from Cork.
