Patrick Vieira is a Senegalese-born French professional footballer, and coach. A midfielder, he played for Cannes, AC Milan, Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Manchester City, and the France national team. He managed New York City FC, Nice, Crystal Palace, Strasbourg, and Genoa. He obtained 107 caps for France, and was part of their 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000-winning sides. He is 6′4″.
His father, Jacob, is said to be from Gabon. His mother, Rose Vieira, is from Cape Verde. The surname Vieira is Portuguese, a name common on Cape Verde. His family moved from Senegal to Dreux, France, when he was eight, and returned to Senegal only in 2003. Patrick’s grandfather served in the French Army, making him eligible for French nationality at birth.
Patrick is married to Cheryl, with whom he has a daughter. Cheryl is from Trinidad.
