Paul Bartel was an American actor, writer, and director. He directed the films The Secret Cinema , which he wrote; Private Parts (1972), Death Race 2000 , Cannonball (1976), Eating Raoul , Not for Publication (1984), all three of which he co-wrote; Lust in the Dust , The Longshot (1986), Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills , and Shelf Life ; and episodes of the shows Amazing Stories , which he also wrote; and Clueless . He also played the lead role in Eating Raoul , and appeared in many other films, including some of the ones he directed, as well as, Hollywood Boulevard , Eat My Dust! , Grand Theft Auto , Piranha (1978), Rock ‘n’ Roll High School , Get Crazy , Frankenweenie (1984), Chopping Mall , Killer Party , Munchies , and Amazon Women on the Moon .

Paul was the son of Jesse King and William A. “Bill” Bartel.

Paul’s paternal grandfather was Frederik/Frderick Wilhelm Konrad Heinrich “William” Bartel (the son of William Rudolph Conrad Lambert “Conrad” Bartel and Florence Gardner). Frederick was born in Hamburg, Germany, to a German-born father and an English-born mother. Paul’s great-grandfather William was the son of Wilhelm Bartel and Willhelmina Herniman. Florence was the daughter of Frederick Gardner.

Paul’s paternal grandmother was Mathilda Augusta Clarenbach (the daughter of Johann Daniel Ludwig Clarenbach and Wilhelmine Eva Albertine Schenke). Augusta was born in Pennsylvania, to a German-born father. Johann was born in Hückeswagen, Hückeswagen, Lennep, Rheinland, Prussia, the son of Ludwig Wilhelm Clarenbach and Julie Mathilde Blank. Wilhelmine was the daughter of German parents, Wilhelm M. Schenke and Auguste D. Schulenburg, from Hannover, Berne, Oldenburg.

Paul’s maternal grandfather was Faris Robinson Feland, Jr. (the son of Faris Robison Feland and Ella H. King). Paul’s grandfather Faris was born in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Paul’s great-grandfather Faris was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky, and was a minister, lawyer, and judge. He was the son of Armstead Milner Feland and Lucy Ann Faris. Ella was the daughter of Simeon Hampton King and Virginia F. Jessee.

Paul’s maternal grandmother was Ivy May Green (the son of Alfred Lee Green and Ida Cora Bean). Ivy was born in Canada, to a Canadian father and a Maine-born mother. Alfred was born in Woodstock, Carleton County, New Brunswick, the son of Josiah Medis Green, whose father was born in Dorset, England, and of Caroline Amelia Kinney, who had at least partial family roots in Boston, Massachusetts. Paul’s great-grandmother Ida was born in Hollis, Maine.
