Pauline Collins was a British actress. Her roles included the films Secrets of a Windmill Girl , Shirley Valentine , for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress; City of Joy (1992), Paradise Road (1997), Mrs Caldicot’s Cabbage War , From Time to Time , You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger , Albert Nobbs , Quartet (2012), Dough , and The Time of Their Lives (2017); the shows Pardon the Expression , Armchair Theatre , Comedy Playhouse , The Liver Birds , Upstairs, Downstairs ; No, Honestly ; Wodehouse Playhouse , Thomas & Sarah , The Black Tower , Forever Green , The Ambassador , Bleak House , Mount Pleasant , and Dickensian ; the made-for-tv movie Man and Boy (2002); and many acclaimed stage performances.
Pauline was the daughter of Mary Honora (Callanan), a schoolteacher, and William Henry Collins, a school headmaster. Her uncle, to some degree, was Irish poet Jeremiah Joseph Callanan; whose parents were John Callanan and Mary Barry. She grew up in Wallasey, Cheshire, and was raised Catholic. Pauline was married to actor John Alderton, until her death. She had a daughter with her former partner, Irish actor Tony Rohr; and three children with John.
Pauline’s paternal grandfather was Frederick William Collins (the son of William Henry Collins and Elizabeth Dunn).
Pauline’s paternal grandmother was named Elizabeth Byrne.
