Peter Malcolm Gordon Moffett, known professionally as Peter Davison, is an English actor. He is known for his roles as Doctor Who, and in the series All Creatures Great and Small , Holding the Fort , Sink or Swim , A Very Peculiar Practice , Campion , At Home with the Braithwaites , The Last Detective , and Law & Order: UK .

Peter is the son of Sheila Kathleen and Claude Neville Gordon Moffett. His father was born in Georgetown, British Guiana, now Guyana, and was said to have been of part African-Guyanese descent. He was a radio engineer and grocer. His mother born in Kasauli, India, while her father was garrisoned there, before returning to England at three years old. She worked in intelligence during WWII. Peter was partly raised in Knaphill, Surrey.

Peter is married to actress and writer Elizabeth Morton. He has a daughter, actress Georgia Tennant , with his former wife, American-British actress Sandra Dickinson; and two children, including actor Louis Davison, with Elizabeth. Both Peter and his son-in-law, actor David Tennant , who is Georgia’s husband, have played Doctor Who. His grandson is actor Ty Tennant.

Peter’s paternal grandfather was named Donald Moffett. Donald was born in Georgetown, British Guiana.
