Peter Welch is an American politician and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as a U.S. Senator from Vermont, since January 3, 2023. He has also been Minority Leader of the Vermont Senate, from January 5, 1983 to January 8, 1985, President pro tempore of the Vermont Senate, from January 9, 1985 to January 4, 1989, and again, from January 8, 2003 to January 3, 2007; and a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Vermont, from January 3, 2007 to January 3, 2023.
Peter is married to politician Margaret Cheney.
