Phil Anselmo is an American heavy metal vocalist/singer. He is the owner of Housecore Records. He has been a member of heavy metal band Pantera, heavy metal supergroup Down, metal/hardcore band Superjoint, hardcore punk band Arson Anthem, side project Viking Crown, and death metal band Necrophagia.
Phil’s father, also named Phil, owned a restaurant in Metairie, Louisiana, called Anselmo’s, which closed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Phil was part of the all-acoustic duo Southern Isolation with his then-wife Stephanie Opal Weinstein.
Phil has stated :
I am part Danish on my mother’s grandmother’s side of the family. She, Lola Hansen, came to the United States and picked cotton, until her fingers were arthritic and bleeding. She was very old when I was a kid and she lived until I was about six or seven.

Phil’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Paul Anselmo (the son of Filippo Anselmo and Antonina Marie Galluccio). Joseph was born in Louisiana, to Italian parents. Filippo was born in Termini Imerese, Palermo, Sicily, the son of Leonardo Salvadore Anselmo and Maria Anna Galluzzo. Antonina was born in Trabia, Palermo, Sicily, the daughter of Anthony/Antonio Gallucci and Maria Tomasello.
Phil’s paternal grandmother was Antonina Taormina (the daughter of Francesco Eustachio “Frank” Taormina and Mary Dominica Marino). Antonina was born in Louisiana, to Italian parents. Francesco was born in Partanna, Trapani, Sicily, the son of Eustachio Taormina and Antonina Teri. Mary was born in Cefalù, Palermo, Sicily, the daughter of Joseph Guiseppe Marino and Mamie Domenica Fulco.
