Phil McGraw, also known as Dr. Phil, is an American television personality, author, psychologist, and actor. He was the host of the show Dr. Phil from 2002 to 2023.
Phil is the son of Anne Geraldine “Jerry” (Stevens) and Joseph J. “Joe” McGraw, Jr. His great-grandfather was Irish. Much of the rest of his ancestry is English. He is married to Robin Jo Jameson, with whom he has two children, including writer and television producer Jay McGraw. Jay is married to model Erica Dahm .
Phil’s paternal grandfather was Joseph/Joe Phillip/Philips McGraw, Sr. (the son of John William McGraw and Mary Esther Rice). Joseph was born in Texas. John was born in Clare, Ireland. Mary Esther was the daughter of Paschal/Pascal H. Rice and Martha Margaret H. Newby.
Phil’s paternal grandmother was Susan Etta “Nettie” Strickland (the daughter of Matthew Payton Strickland and Martha Frances Russell). Susan was born in Arkansas. Matthew was the son of Kinyard Strickland and Roda/Rhoda Hale. Martha was the daughter of Joseph Samuel Russell and Sarah Ann Gilliam.
