She moved with her family to Nashville, Tennessee, when she was fourteen.

Poppy’s paternal grandfather likely was Jesse Pereira (the son of Jacinto Pereira and Catherina Vieira). Jesse was born in Swansea, Massachusetts, the son of Portuguese emigrants, his father from Madeira and his mother from the Azores.
