Prabowo Subianto is an Indonesian politician, businessperson, and military officer. He has served as President of Indonesia, since 20 October, 2024, and General Chairman of Gerindra, since 20 September, 2014. He was previously Commandant General of Kopassus, from 1 December, 1995 to 20 March, 1998, Commander of Kostrad, from 20 March, 1998 to 22 May, 1998, and Minister of Defense, from 23 October, 2019 to 20 October, 2024. He is a retired army general.
President Prabowo’s father, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo (previously spelled as Soemitro Djojohadikoesoemo), was originally from Gombong, Keboemen (now Kebumen Regency), Central Java, and was a statesman and economist, who served as Minister of Finance, from 3 April, 1952 to 30 July, 1953, and again, from 12 August, 1955 to 24 March, 1956; Minister of Trade and Industry (later Minister of Trade), from 6 September, 1950 to 27 April, 1951, and again, from 6 June, 1968 to 28 March, 1983; and State Minister of Research, from 28 March, 1973 to 29 March, 1978.
President Prabowo’s mother, Dora Marie Sigar, was a Protestant Christian, of Minahasan and German descent, who originated from the Sigar-Maengkom family in Langowan, North Sulawesi.
President Prabowo’s younger brother, Hashim Djojohadikusumo, is an entrepreneur and politician.
President Prabowo has a son, fashion designer and socialite Didit Hediprasetyo (Ragowo Hediprasetyo Djojohadikusumo), with his former wife, businessperson and politician Titiek Suharto (Siti Hediati Hariyadi). Titiek has represented Yogyakarta at the House of Representatives of Indonesia, since 1 October, 2024, and, previously, from 1 October, 2014 to 11 June, 2018.
President Prabowo’s paternal grandfather was Raden Mas Margono Djojohadikusumo (the son of Raden Tumenggung Mangkuprodjo). Margono was born in Banjoemas, now Banyumas Regency, Central Java, and was a politician and banker, who served as Chair of Supreme Advisory Council, from 25 September, 1945 to 6 November, 1945; and President of Bank Negara Indonesia from 5 July, 1946 to October 1953. Mangkuprodjo was the son of Raden Kartoatmodjo and Raden Ayu Djojoatmojo.
President Prabowo’s paternal grandmother was named Siti Katoemi Wirodihardjo.
President Prabowo’s maternal grandfather was Philip Frederik Laurens Sigar (the son of Philip Roeland Sigar and Theresia Petronella Adriana Alling). President Prabowo’s grandfather Philip was born in Langowan, Minahasa Regency, Sulawesi. President Prabowo’s great-grandfather Philip was the son of Laurens Roeland Sigar and Eliseba Ratumbuysang. Theresia was the daughter of Frederik Jacobus Alling and Albertina Frederika Tombu.
President Prabowo’s maternal grandmother was Cornelie Emelie Maengkom (the daughter of Jan Eduard Maengkom and Antoinette Emelie Tambahani). Cornelie was born in Tondano, Minahasa Regency, Sulawesi. Jan was the son of Frederik Hendrik Maengkom and Jemima Moningkeij.
