Quim Torra is a lawyer, journalist, and politician. He has been President of Òmnium Cultural, from 21 July, 2015 to 19 December, 2015, and President of the Government of Catalonia, from 17 May, 2018 to 29 September, 2020; as well as, a Member of the Catalan Parliament for the Province of Barcelona, from 17 January, 2018 to 27 January, 2020.

Quim is the son of Carme Pla i Garriga and Joaquim Maria “Quim” Torra i Fàbregas. His family were originally from Santa Coloma de Farners, Girona, but moved to Blanes where his father worked as an engineer at the Sociedad Anónima de Fibras Artificiales (SAFA) plant. A picture of his mother can be seen here . Quim was married to Catalan, teacher Carola Miró i Bedós, until her death, with who he has three children.

Quim’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his sixth great-grandfather, Francesc Torra.

Quim’s paternal grandfather was Josep Maria Torra i Noguer (the son of Joaquim Josep Pau Torra i Serrahima and Joana Carlota Bàrbara Noguer i Amic). Quim’s grandfather Josep was born in Santa Coloma de Farners. Quim’s great-grandfather Joaquim was the son of Josep Gaspar Salvador Torra i Janer and Maria Antònia Paula Serrahima i Simon. Joana was the daughter of Bernat Ignasi Josep Noguer i Donay and Anna Maria Joana Amic i Lell.

Quim’s paternal grandmother was Trinitat Fàbregas i Costa (the daughter of Josep Fàbregas and Dolors Costa). Trinitat was born in Barcelona, Barcelona.

Quim’s maternal grandfather was Domènec Pla i Llinàs (the son of Josep Pla i Boix and Carme Llinàs i Triadó). Domènec was born in Santa Coloma de Farners. Quim’s great-grandfather Josep was the son of Pere Josep Sadurní Pla i Masó and Teresa Boix i Rovira. Carme was the daughter of Damià Miquel Joan Llinàs i Plana and Filomena Triadó i Casacuberta.

Quim’s maternal grandmother was Maria Garriga i Gironès (the daughter of Narcís Miquel Pere i Garriga Oliveres and Matilde Teresa Maria Gironès i Massallera). Quim’s grandmother Maria was born in Santa Coloma de Farners. Narcís was the son of Esteva Josep Emili Garriga i Pica and Maria Dolors Joaquima Marianna Oliveres i Mestres. Matilde was the daughter of Josep Salvador Ramon Gironès i Viader and Maria Massallera i Gispert.

Quim’s matrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his third great-grandmother, Maria Gispert.
