R. Kelly is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and basketball player. He played for the Atlantic City Seagulls of the United States Basketball League (USBL). He is also known by his birth name Robert Kelly, and as Pied Piper and Kellz. He was convicted of federal racketeering and sex trafficking charges involving sexual abuse of minors.
His mother, Joan/Joanne, was a schoolteacher, from Arkansas. One web site stated that his mother was from the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. It is not clear if this is accurate.
R. Kelly has three children with his former wife, choreographer, dancer, and actress Andrea Kelly.
