Rafael Márquez is a Mexican professional footballer, and coach. A centre-back and defensive midfielder, he played for Atlas, Monaco, Barcelona, New York Red Bulls, León, Hellas Verona, and Atlas, and the Mexico national team. He is assistant manager for Mexico. He was previously manager for Alcalá U15 and Barcelona Atlètic. He is nicknamed “El Káiser.”
His father, Rafael Márquez Esqueda, is also a professional footballer. His mother, Rosa María Álvarez Piñones, is the sister of footballer Leonardo Álvarez. Rafael is married to actress Jaydy Michel . He has two children with his former wife, actress Adriana Lavat. Rafael is the uncle of professional footballer Luis Alberto Márquez.
