Raimonds Vējonis is a Latvian politician. He has served as Minister of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, from 7 November, 2002 to 25 October, 2011, Minister of Defence, from 22 January, 2014 to 7 July, 2015, President of Latvia, from 8 July, 2015 to 8 July, 2019, and President of the Latvian Basketball Association, since 21 January, 2020.
Raimonds’ father, Jānis Gunārs Vējonis, is Latvian, and served in the Soviet Army. Raimonds’ mother, Tatiana (or Tatjana in Latvian), is Russian. He is married to schoolteacher Iveta Sivoha, with whom he has two children.
