Rama Yade is a Senegalese-born French conservative politician and author. She has been Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Human Rights, from 19 June, 2007 to 23 June, 2009, Secretary of State for Sports, from 23 June, 2009 to 13 November, 2010, and Ambassador of France to UNESCO, from 22 December, 2010 to 30 June, 2011; as well as, a Member of the Regional Council of Île-de-France, from 21 March, 2010 to 18 December, 2015.
Rama was raised in a Muslim upper middle class family. Her mother, Aminata Kandji, was a professor, and her father, Djibril Yade, a diplomat and also a professor, was the personal secretary of Senegalese President Léopold Sédar Senghor. Rama moved to France with her family at the age of eight, and attended Catholic schools.
Rama is married to Joseph Zimet. Joseph is Jewish.
