Red Ruffing was an American professional baseball player. A pitcher, he played for the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, and the Chicago White Sox of Major League Baseball (MLB).

Red was the son of Francisca/Frances (Fest/Mueller) and John Ruffing, who was Mayor of Coaltown, a company community within the town of Nokomis. His parents were German emigrants, with his father being from Elfersberg. He was married to Pauline Mulholland, with whom he had a son.
