Richard Farnsworth was an American actor and stuntperson. He was known for his roles in the films Comes a Horseman , Tom Horn , Ruckus , Resurrection (1980), The Legend of the Lone Ranger , The Grey Fox , Independence Day (1983), The Natural , Into the Night , Sylvester (1985), Space Rage , The Two Jakes , Misery , Highway to Hell , The Getaway , Lassie (1994), and The Straight Story , and the made-for-tv movie Anne of Green Gables (1985).

He was the son of Bertha Pennington (Miller) and Edward George Farnsworth, an engineer. He was married to Margaret Hill, until her death, with whom he had two children.
