Robert Eggers is an American film director, screenwriter, and production and costume designer. He has directed the films The VVitch (2015), The Lighthouse (2019), The Northman (2022), and Nosferatu (2024). He wrote the first and fourth film, and co-wrote the other two.
He has been inspired by his childhood in New England, including the Plimoth Plantation in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He is married to clinical psychologist Alexandra Shaker, with whom he has a son.
Robert’s maternal grandfather was Robert Stroud Houston (the son of Robert Stroud Houston and Mary Rawlings). Robert’s grandfather Robert was born in North Carolina. Robert’s great-grandfather Robert was born in North Carolina, the son of Robert Virgil Houston and Mary Nancy Isabella Stroud.
Robert’s maternal grandmother was Maxine Mary Brand (the daughter of David Brand and Florence Kelley/Kelly). Mary was born in Arizona. David was born in New York, to Jewish parents from Russia. Florence was born in New York.
