Chespirito was a Mexican actor, comedian, screenwriter, humorist, director, producer, author, and amateur boxer. He was one of the most loved and respected comedians in Latin America. He wrote the film Dos locos en escena , directed, wrote, and starred in the film El Chanfle 2 , and directed the film Milagro y magia . He created, starred on, wrote for, and directed episodes of, the shows Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada , Chespirito , El Chapulín Colorado , and El Chavo del Ocho . He was also known as “Little Shakespeare.”

Chespirito was the son of Elsa Bolaños Aguilar, a secretary, from Oaxaca, and Francisco Gómez Linares, a painter, cartoonist, and illustrator, from Guanajuato, Guanajuato. His brother was actor Horacio Gómez Bolaños. He was a first cousin, once removed, of politician Gustavo Díaz Ordaz (Gustavo Díaz Ordaz Bolaños), who was President of Mexico, from 1 December, 1964 to 30 November, 1970. Chespirito was raised partly by his aunt in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and also lived in Colonia del Valle, Mexico City.

Chespirito was married to actress, comedian, television producer, and screenwriter Florinda Meza, until his death. He had six children, including producer, artist, actor, and comedian Roberto Gómez Fernández, with his former wife Graciela Fernández.

Chespirito’s paternal grandfather was José Joaquín Donato de la Santísima Trinidad Gómez Couto (the son of Francisco de Paula Gómez Unigarro and Maria Ignacia de la Paz Couto Miñón). Joaquín was born in Guanajuato. Francisco was born in Morelia, Michoacán, the son of José Ramón Gómez Ortiz and Juana Unigarro. Maria was the daughter of José Domingo Couto Ybea, whose father was from Galicia, Spain; and of Joaquina Miñón Altamirano, whose father was from Poza de la Sal, Burgos, Castilla y León, Spain.

Chespirito’s paternal grandmother was María Juliana Linares Aguiar (the daughter of Luis Linares and Faustina Aguiar). María was born in Guanajuato.

Chespirito’s maternal grandfather was Juan Nepomuceno Pedro Ramón Bolaños Cacho (the son of Aurelio Ramon Francisco Bolaños Echavarria and Sabina Cacho Apesechea/Apezechea). Chespirito’s grandfather Ramón was born in Oaxaca, and was of Basque descent. He was a military doctor. Chespirito’s great-grandfather Ramon was born in Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, the son of Aurelio Bolaños Martinez and Ana Maria Josepha Jimenez/Ximenez Echavarria y Varela. Chespirito’s great-grandmother Sabina was born in Coxcatlán, Puebla, the daughter of Julian Yldefonso Guadalupe Cacho Ugalde, whose father was from Reino de Castilla, Spain; and of Maria Josefa del Carmen Apezechea Errasti/Monteagudo.

Chespirito’s maternal grandmother was María Concepción Aguilar Rodríguez (the daughter of Manuel Ysidro/Isidro Aguilar Cantabra/Torres and Emilia Rodríguez Novoa). María was born in Zacatecas. Manuel was born in Zacatecas, the son of Silverio Aguilar Zúñiga and Manuela Torres Cantabrana. Emilia was born in Zacatecas, the daughter of Mariano Rodríguez Calvo and Maria Del Pilar Novoa Avila.

He descended from the House of Ibelin, which descended from the Armenian Royal Family.
