Sixto Rodriguez was an American singer, songwriter, and musician. He was initially known in Australia, New Zealand, and particularly South Africa, where his music was wildly popular. The documentary Searching for Sugar Man depicted how fans of Rodriguez found him in the 1990s, while he was unaware of his fame. He was also known as Rod Riguez, Sixth Prince, Jesús Rodríguez, and simply Rodriguez.
Rodriguez was the son of Maria and Ramon Rodriguez, who were Mexican immigrants. He lived a life far from the entertainment industry, in Detroit’s historic Woodbridge neighborhood, where he performed for small crowds in bars in the Cass Corridor, Detroit, including the Old Miami pub. He was married to Constance “Konny” Rodriguez, and had three children.
