Ronan O’Gara ( Rónán Ó Gadhra ) is an Irish rugby union player, and coach. A fly-half, he played for sixteen season with Munster, and was with the Ireland national team and British & Irish Lions. He is head coach for La Rochelle. He was prevously defence coach for Racing 92, and assistant coach for Crusaders. He won two Heineken Cups with Munster. He is Ireland’s third most-capped player, and second highest points scorer.
Ronan was born in Sacramento, California, to Irish parents. He is the son of Joan and Fergal O’Gara, a professor in microbiology at University College Cork. His father was born in Ballisodare, Co. Sligo, and was an amateur rugby player for UCG Connacht. His mother was born in Ballina, Co. Mayo. Ronan has stated , “I was born in San Diego when my dad, who’s a scientist, was working over there.”
According to his birth certificate, Ronan was born in Sacramento . His family moved to County Cork, Ireland, when he was six months old.
Ronan is married to Jessica Daly, with whom he has five children.
