Roy Cooper is an American politician and attorney. A member of the Democratic Party, he has served as Majority Leader of the North Carolina Senate, from July 17, 1997 to January 1, 2001, Attorney General of North Carolina, from January 6, 2001 to January 1, 2017, and Governor of North Carolina, from January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2025.
Roy is the son of Beverly Thorne (Batchelor) and Roy Asberry Cooper, Jr. He is married to lawyer Kristin Bernhardt, with whom he has three children.
