Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, from 13 July, 2003 to 30 January, 2006, and Emir of Kuwait, and Commander of the Kuwait Military Forces, both, from 24 January, 2006 to 29 September, 2020, his death.

Sabah’s father, Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, was the Sheikh of Kuwait, from 29 March, 1921 to 29 January, 1950, his death. Sabah’s mother, Munira Al-Ayyar, was from Al Jahra. Sabah was married to Fatuwah bint Salman Al-Sabah, until her death, with whom he had four children. Among their children was Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who was Minister of Amiri Diwan of Kuwait (Head of the Ruler’s Court), from 12 February, 2006 to 11 December, 2017, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, from 11 December, 2017 to 18 November, 2019.

Sabah’s patrilineal ancestry can be traced back to his sixth great-grandfahther, Jaber bin Salman bin Ahmad.

Sabah’s paternal grandfather was Jaber II Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah (the son of Mubarak bin Sabah Al-Sabah and Shekha bint Duaij Al-Sabah). Jaber II was born in the Sheikhdom of Kuwait, and was Ruler of Kuwait, from 28 November, 1915 to 5 February, 1917. Mubarak was the son of Sabah II bin Jaber Al-Sabah and Lulwa bint Muhammad Al-Thaqib. Shekha was the daughter of Duaij bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah and Asma bint Salman Al-Sabah.

Sabah’s paternal grandmother was Shekha bint Abdullah II Al-Sabah (the daughter of Abdullah II Sabah II Al-Jabir I Al-Sabah and Latifa bint Jasim). Abdullah was the son of Sabah II bin Jaber Al-Sabah and Fatma bint Salim Al-Jarrah, making Mubarak and Abdullah half-brothers. Latifa was the daughter of Jasim bin Sulaiman.
