Sara Haines is an American television personality, host, and journalist. She has been a co-host of the talk shows The View and Strahan, Sara and Keke/em>; and the game show The Chase ; and a correspondent on Today , ABC News , and Good Morning America .

Sara is the daughter of Sandra Sue and Richard Joseph Haines. She was raised in Newton, Iowa, and attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She is married to attorney Max Shifrin, with whom she has three children.

Sara’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Ira Haines (the son of Ira Joseph Haines and Ida Elizabeth Grim). Sara’s grandfather Joseph was born Cetronia, Pennsylvania, and was of Pennsylvania Dutch (German) descent. Sara’s great-grandfather Ira was also born in Cetronia, the son of Jacob S. Haines and Lillie Amanda Lichtenwalner. Sara’s great-grandmother Ida was born in Dorneyville, the daugher of David M. Grim and Sarah Schaffer. David had distant roots in Ittlingen, Germany.

Sara’s paternal grandmother was Sarah Viola Ziegenfuss (the daughter of William Henry Ziegenfuss and Nettie Frack Frey). Sarah was born in Hellertown, Pennsylvania, and was of Pennsylvania Dutch descent. William was the son of Edwin Peter Zeigenfuss and Sarah Ann Ruch. Sara’s great-grandmother Nettie was the daughter of Joseph M. Frey and Leah Gruver.

Sara’s maternal grandfather was Daniel Richard May (the son of John Wesley May and Jessie Fay Tillman). Daniel was born in Bradford, Kansas. John was born in Wabaunsee County, KS, the son of Daniel Wesley May and Alice Amanda Akers, who were from Pennsylvania. Sara’s great-grandmother Jessie was born in Topeka, the daughter of Silas Ellsworth Tillman/Tilman, who was born in Indiana; and of Ella Roena Waldo, who was from Michigan. Through her Waldo line, Sara is a third cousin, nine times removed, of U.S. President John Adams , through her eleven times great-grandparents Henry Adams and Edith Squire.

Sara’s maternal grandmother was Alberta Ellen Kiddoo (the daughter of Albert Ross Kiddoo and Lulu Stoner). Alberta was born in Neodesha, Kansas. Albert was born in Centerville, Missouri, the son of John Kiddoo and Mary Gormly, who were born in Pennsylvania. Sara’s great-grandmother Lulu was born in Kansas, the daughter of Michael C. Stoner, who was from Virginia, and was a Justice of the Peace, marshall, and police judge; and of Nancy E. Burket/Pollan, who was from Ohio.
