Sarah Treem is an American television writer, producer, and playwright. She is the co-creator of the show The Affair , for which was also a showrunner and writer. She has also written for the shows In Treatment , How to Make It in America , and House of Cards . She has written many plays, including The How and the Why .
Her father is a pediatric gastroenterologist. Her mother is a consultant and angel investor. Sarah is married to Icelandic game designer Torfi Frans Ólafsson. She was raised in many places, particularly New Haven, Connecticut, as well as New Hampshire, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Washington, D.C.; and North Carolina. She has two children with her former husband, screenwriter and producer Jay Carson.
Sarah’s maternal grandmother is named Bena Shaw. Bena had Hungarian Jewish ancestry.
