Scott Weiland was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was the lead singer of rock band Stone Temple Pilots. Other members of the band include/included Chester Bennington , Dean DeLeo , Robert DeLeo , and Eric Kretz. He was also a member of hard rock supergroup Velvet Revolver, with Dave Kushner, Duff McKagan , Slash , and Matt Sorum ; hard rock supergroup Camp Freddy, with Mark McGrath , Dave Navarro , and Sorum; rock supergroup and side project The Wondergirls, with Ian Astbury, Jay Gordon , Shannon Leto , Mark McGrath , and Ryan Shuck ; and rock supergroup Art of Anarchy, with Scott Stapp .
Scott was the son of Sharon and Kent Kline. He was adopted by his stepfather, John David Weiland. He was married to photographer Jamie Wachtel, until his death. He had two children with his former wife, model Mary Forsberg.
Scott’s paternal grandfather was Paul Dayton Kline (the son of Peter Kline and Catherine “Katie” Walters). Paul was born in Morris Township, Pennsylvania, and was of German descent. Peter was the son of German emigrants, John Klein, from Dörnbach, Freising, Bavaria; and Katherine Hoehn, from Feilbingert, Rhineland-Palatinate. Scott’s great-grandmother Catherine was also the daughter of German parents, George Walter and Elizabeth Schneider, who were from Darmstadt, Hesse.
Scott’s paternal grandmother was Florence Gilbertson (the daughter of Oskar Vilhelm Aleksander Gulbrandsen, later William Oscar Gilbertson, and of Anna Elise Arnesen). Florence was born in Illinois, to Norwegian parents. Oskar was born in Oslo, the son of Ole Martin Gulbrandsen and Gurine Pedersdatter Halvteigen. Scott’s great-grandmother Anna was also born in Oslo, the daughter of Gulbrand Arnesen and Anna Bergitte/Birgitte Hansen.
Scott’s maternal grandfather was James Rupert Williams (the son of Fred Mark Williams and Lena Lee Lutz). James was born in Springfield, Illinois. Fred was the son of Rupert Williams and Susie Bell Loring, and had deep American roots. Scott’s great-grandmother Lena was the daughter of German emigrants, John Nicholaus Lutz, from Pünderich, Rhineland-Palatinate; and Anna Maria Müller, from Langenfeld, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Scott’s maternal grandmother was Verna Geraldine Belding (the daughter of Millard Aretas Belding and Ida Susanne Bushong). Verna was born in Milwaukie, Oregon, and had deep roots in the U.S. Millard was the son of Aretas Walter Belding and Cora Neolia Royal. Ida was the daughter of Emanuel Bushong and Clara Johnson.
