Shai is the son of Charmaine Gilgeous, an Olympic track athlete, and sprinter, and Vaughn Alexander, a basketball player. His parents are Antiguan. His cousin is professional basketball player Nickeil Alexander-Walker. He is married to Hailey Summers, with whom he has a son.
