Sheryl Lee is an American actress. She came to international attention for her performance as Laura Palmer/Maddy Ferguson on the 1990 cult television series Twin Peaks , in the 1992 film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me , on the follow-up series Twin Peaks: The Return , and in the audiobook The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer . Sheryl was born in Augsburg, Schwaben, Bavaria, Germany, to American parents, Linda, an artist, and William Lee, an architect. Her family is most recently from the American South, particularly Oklahoma. She was raised mostly in Boulder, Colorado. Sheryl has a son with her former husband, photographer Jesse Diamond. Jesse is the son of singer and songwriter Neil Diamond .
