Simu Liu (刘思慕 / 劉思慕) is a Chinese-Canadian actor, writer, and stuntperson. He plays Shaun / Shang-Chi in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings . He was the first actor of Asian origin to play the leading role in an MCU film. His roles also include the films Women Is Losers , Bright: Samurai Soul , One True Loves , Simulant , Barbie (2023), Arthur the King , Atlas , Jackpot! (2024), Last Breath , and In Your Dreams (2025); the shows Out with Dad , Blood and Water , Taken , Kim’s Convenience , Slasher: Guilty Party , Bad Blood , Yappie , Star Wars: Visions , Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai , What If…? , Got to Get Out , Invincible , Marvel Zombies , and The Copenhagen Test ; the music videos for “I Could Be The One” and “Run It;” and the video game Stormgate .
Simu was born in Harbin, the son of Zhenning and Zheng Li, and moved to Canada when he was five. He was raised in Kingston, and then Erin Mills, in Mississauga, Ontario. His parents eventually became aerospace engineers.
