Her father is Egyptian filmmaker Ibrahim Moussa. Her mother is German actress and model Nastassja Kinski (born Nastassja Aglaia Nakszynski), who is of Polish and German descent. Her maternal grandfather was German actor Klaus Kinski . Her half-sister is American fashon model Kenya Kinski-Jones . Her mother’s half-siblings are German actress Pola Kinski and French-American actor Nikolai Kinski . Sonja lived in Rome, Lazio, Italy, until age six, and then moved to Los Angeles, California.
Sonja’s maternal grandfather was Klaus Kinski (born Klaus Günter Karl Nakszynski, the son of Bruno Carl Julius Nakszynski and Susanne Eva Lutze). Klaus was born in Zoppot, Free City of Danzig, now Sopot, Poland, and had German, and some Polish, ancetry. Bruno was a pharmacist and opera singer, and was the son of Ferdinand Julius Nakszynski and Anna Clara Schneider. Sonja’s great-grandmother Susanne was a nurse, and was the daughter of a pastor.
Sonja’s maternal grandmother is actress Ruth Brigitte Tocki. Ruth is German, by either birth or citizenship, although Tocki is often a Polish surname.
