Sonoya Mizuno (みずの・そのや) is a Japanese-born British actress, model, and ballerina. She has performed in the Alex Garland productions Ex Machina , Annihilation , and Devs , and starred on the show Maniac .
She was born in Tokyo, Japan. Her father, Hajime Mizuno, is Japanese, from Kyoto. Her mother, whose family partly recently lived in Argentina, is of English, and small amounts of Irish, Basque, Spanish, and Jersey Channel Islander/French, descent. Her parents met in Tokyo in the 1970s. Her brother, Tomoya Mizuno, is also a model. They were raised in Somerset, England. Sonoya’s parents are pictured here .
Sonoya’s uncle, mother’s brother, was actor Edward Duke.
Sonoya’s maternal grandfather was named Robert Anthony Hare Duke. Robert was part of the British Council, and cultural attache in Tokyo.
Sonoya’s maternal grandmother was Yvonne Mabel Le Bas (the daughter of Ricardo/Richard Wilson Olavarria Le Bas and Florence Anne Marrs). Ricardo was of Irish, Spanish, Basque, and Jersey Channel Islander/French descent, the son of Diego Olavarria Le Bas and Enriqueta Elena Wilson. Florence was born in Argentina, to English parents, from Liverpool, Henry John Marrs and Ellen Howard.
