Sparky Anderson was an American professional baseball player, coach, and manager. A second baseman, he played for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He also managed the Cincinnati Reds and the Detroit Tigers, and coached the San Diego Padres. He won two Manager of the Year awards, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as a manager in 2000.
Sparky was the son of Shirley T. and LeRoy William Anderson. He was married to Carol Valle.
Sparky’s paternal grandfather was Oscar Adolf Anderson (the son of Svend/Sven “Sam” Anderson and Annette Oline Marie Høst). Oscar was born in Norcross, Grant County, Minnesota, to Norwegian parents. Svend was born in Fredrikstad, Fredrikstad kommune, Østfold fylke, the son of Andrew Olsen and Karine Moen. Sparky’s great-grandmother Annette was born in Østfold fylke, the daughter of Hans Julius Høst and Marie Olsdatter.
Sparky’s paternal grandmother was Etta Milissa Presuhn (the daughter of William Presuhn and Louise Janeta Freeman). William was born in Lower Saxony, Germany, the son of Christian Presuhn and Wilhelmina Koenig. Louise was the daughter of Phillip Freeman and Melissa Elizabeth Strong.
Sparky’s maternal grandfather was William Archie McDaniel (the son of Francis Marion McDaniel and Mary Catherine Blackwood).
