Spencer’s paternal grandfather was Richard S. Neville (the son of Harold Parker Neville and Anna Katherine Spring). Richard was born in Pennsylvania. Harold was the son of Samuel Neville, whose paternal grandparents were Irish; and of Katherine “Katie” Metzger, whose father was German, from Saarbrücken, Saarland. Spencer’s great-grandmother Anna was the daughter of John Peter Spring, whose father, and maternal grandparents, were German; and of Anna E. Gresh.
