Sterling is the daughter of Alana, an actress, and Edgar Jerins, an artist. Her sister, Ruby Jerins , is also an actress. Her father is from Omaha, Nebraska, and is of Latvian descent. Her mother is from North Carolina, and is from a Jewish family. Sterling’s family belongs to a Conservative Jewish synagogue, which may mean that Sterling’s father converted to Judaism. She was raised Jewish.
