Steve’s paternal grandfather was Herman J. Mokate (the son of Anthony Mokate and Hannah A. McGarvey). Herman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Anthony was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the son of Hermannus Mokate and Maria Johanna de Jong. Hannah was born in Paisley, Scotland, the daughter of John McGarvey and Margaret Gilmour.
