Steve Nash is a Canadian professional basketball player, and coach. A point guard, he played for the Phoenix Suns, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Los Angeles Lakers, for a total of eighteen seasons, of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He coached the Brooklyn Nets. As a player, he was an eight-time All-Star, a seven-time All-NBA selection, and a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player.

Steve was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, the son of Jean Hall and John Nash. His father was from Tottenham, London, England. His mother was from Swansea, Wales. When he was a small child, his family moved to Canada, living in Regina, Saskatchewan, and then Victoria, British Columbia. He has a Canadian and British passport. His brother, Martin Nash, is a professional soccer player. His sister, Joann, was a top college soccer player; she is married to Canadian professional ice hockey player Manny Malhotra.

Steve is married to junior women’s U.S. team volleyball player Lilla Frederick. He has three children with his former wife Alejandra Amarilla; and two children with Lilla.

Steve’s maternal grandfather was named Les Hall.
