Sub Urban is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. He is known for his viral tracks “Cradles,” “UH OH!,” and “Freak.” He has been nominated for Best Music Video Director at the Berlin Music Video Awards.
His mother is Taiwanese. Sub Urban was raised in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and started writing music at fifteen.
Sub Urban’s paternal grandfather was Joseph Ferdinand Cléo Maisonneuve (the son of Arthur Maisonneuve and Rose-Anna/Roseanna Brunet). Joseph was born in Québec, Canada, of French-Canadian descent. Arthur was born in St-Pascal-Baylon, Clarence-Rockland, Ontario, the son of Pierre Maisonneuve and Domithilde Ouellet. Sub Urban’s great-grandmother Rose-Anna was born in St-Pascal-Baylon, the daughter of Georges Brunet and Odile Sauve. Georges had distant of Colonial New England ancestry.
Sub Urban’s paternal grandmother was Loretta Martin (the daughter of Marie Joseph Bernard Martin and Margaret Alice Peck). Loretta was born in Lourdes, Stellarton, Pictou, Nova Scotia, Canada. Marie was born in Stellarton, the son of Michael Martin, whose parents were Scottish, his mother from Glassary, Argyll; and of Mary Ann McInnis, who also had Scottish ancestry. Sub Urban’s great-grandmother Margaret was born in Sydney Mines, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Her father, James Peck, had Irish and English ancestry, including an English-born paternal grandfather. Her mother, Sub Urban’s great-great-grandmother Mary Murphy, had a father who was born in Newfoundland, to Irish parents, from Waterford and Wexford, respectively, and a mother who was also the daughter of Irish parents.
